Lagos State University (LASU) was established in 1983 through the Enabling Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, to advance learning, promote academic excellence, and address the manpower needs of Lagos State. Job overview

In accordance with the Lagos State University Law 2004 (as amended), the Bursar serves as a Principal Officer of the University and reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor.

The Bursar is responsible for the day-to-day administration and control of the University’s financial affairs across all campuses and serves as the Head of the University Bursary Department.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the University’s annual budget while ensuring strict financial discipline.

  • Supervise financial reporting processes, treasury operations, and internal control systems.

  • Oversee the activities of the Bursary Department and all University financial transactions.

  • Implement cost-efficiency strategies and ensure optimal utilization of financial resources.

  • Provide financial advisory services to the Vice-Chancellor and Governing Council, including matters related to financial risk management.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Vice-Chancellor.

Eligibility criteria and experience

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • A Good Honours Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting from a recognized institution.

  • Fifteen (15) years relevant post-qualification experience, together with a professional qualification such as ICAN, ACA, ACMA, or ANAN, with at least twelve (12) years relevant post-qualification experience.

  • Possession of a relevant higher degree.

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Deputy Bursar in a recognized tertiary institution.

  • Proficiency in the use of relevant accounting software.

  • Proficiency in the use of AI tools.

Remuneration

The remuneration for the position of Bursar at Lagos State University includes a Basic Salary on CONUNASS 15, together with other benefits and allowances applicable to Registrars and Bursars in Nigerian public universities, as approved by the Governing Council of Lagos State University.

Tenure

In accordance with the Lagos State University Law 2004 (as amended), the appointment of the Bursar is for a term of four (4) years, with eligibility for reappointment for one additional term of four (4) years only.
