Research projects

The Postdoctoral Scholar may participate in research associated with the following projects:

  • Geographic Variation in Addiction Treatment Experiences (GATE) Study

  • Promoting Recovery Outcomes with Motivational Interviewing and Social Network Engagement (PROMISE) Study

  • Women’s Justice Community Overdose Innovation Network (JCOIN-2) Study

  • Support Towards Addiction Recovery (STAR) Study

The position supports the professional development of early-career researchers by offering mentorship and opportunities to develop grant-writing skills, conduct independent and collaborative research, and disseminate findings. Scholars will engage with faculty affiliated with the Center on Drug & Alcohol Research (CDAR) and the Center for Health, Engagement and Transformation (CHET). Additional research opportunities are available through the University’s Substance Use Priority Research Area (SUPRA) initiative.

Applicants should demonstrate strong interest in interdisciplinary research and possess the scholarly potential necessary to pursue NIH funding and tenure-track academic positions at research-intensive universities.

Terms of agreement

This appointment provides postdoctoral research training and support according to NIH postdoctoral salary guidelines.

  • Initial appointment: One year

  • Renewal: Possible second year based on satisfactory performance and available funding

  • Professional support includes funding for conference travel, research dissemination, and professional development.

The Postdoctoral Scholar will be expected to:

  • Develop new research skills.

  • Establish independent research directions.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary research collaborations.

Position period:

  • Start date: July 1, 2026

  • End date: June 30, 2027

Required education

  • PhD in Sociology, Psychology, Public Health, or a related field.

Required related experience

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • At least one first-author publication.

  • Relevant research experience.

  • Experience working with quantitative and/or social network data is desirable.

Required license or certification

  • Not applicable.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.

Work schedule

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

  • Occasional weekend work may be required.
